Fruit and Vegetables
Gallagher’s fresh fruit and vegetables are the perfect accompaniment to any meal. They are also ideal for all your little vegans and vegetarians and so full of vitamins and minerals. So whether it is your meat and two veg you are after or a full array of our food products we have a selection to suit you.
Fruit and Vegetables have wonderful health benefits. These include being a source of vitamins A (beta-carotene), C and E, magnesium, zinc, phosphorous and folic acid. Folic acid may reduce blood levels of homocysteine, a substance that may be a risk factor for coronary heart disease.
You should eat at least five servings of vegetables and two servings of fruit each day. Choose from different colours and varieties.
A serving of vegetables is about one cup of raw salad vegetables or 1/2 cup of cooked.
A serving of fruit is about one medium piece, 2 small pieces or 1 cup canned fruit (no added sugar).
It can often be difficult to get the fussy eaters to eat their vegetables. Why not try our mixed vegetable soup or try sneaking a few tablespoons of it into something they will eat!
Since vegetables and fruit contain lots of water, they are also essential for hydration and digestion while providing fuel for your body’s beneficial bacteria to survive and thrive.
You can cook vegetables by steaming, grilling, sautéing, or roasting — or enjoy them raw.
If you have left over fruit and vegetables fresh or cooked – they can be frozen to be used later.
