Chicken and Poultry

At Gallagher’s Castlefinn , we supply a range of locally sourced Chicken and Turkey.

White poultry meat , like chicken and turkey, is very popular with our customers. That is because it is a lean protein and highly nutritious.

Chicken  and Turkey come in a variety of cuts, including breasts, thighs, wings and drumsticks. That means each cut contains a different amount of protein, fat and calories, so each works best for different cooking purposes.

The following is the protein contents of different cuts of cooked, boneless and skinless chicken:

Breast: 54 g in one breast, or 31 g per 100 g

  • Thigh: 13.5 g in one thigh, or 26 g per 100 g
  • Drumstick: 12.4 g in one drumstick, or 28.3 g per 100 g
  • Wings: 6.4 g in one wing, or 30.5 g per 100 g

Chicken and Turkey are a carbohydrate-free food before adding any breading, sauces or trimmings.

They are also rich in vitamins and minerals. A 100g raw, skinless chicken breast contains:

  • 11 mg Calcium,
  • 28 mg Magnesium,
  • 196 mg Phosphorus,
  • 255 mg Potassium,
  • 17.8 mcg Selenium,
  • 11 mg Niacin,
  • 0.55 mg Vitamin B-6
  • and Vitamin A.

Turkey has similar properties and vitamin content to chicken but Turkey is also believed to have mood-enhancing properties. It contains tryptothan, which produces serotonin, a neurotransmitter that helps improve your mood. Tryptothan also plays an important role in strengthening the immune system.

That makes chicken and turkey  quite nutritious indeed.
